Who doesn’t love a fair? From the exhibits, food stands, and goodies to purchase, fair’s have plenty for everyone. The Common Ground Country Fair, in Unity Maine, is nothing short of exciting with all of the treats that many fairs offer, but with some special twists many other fairs don’t offer.
MOFGA, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, started the Common Ground Country Fair 37 years ago with the hope of bringing people together who love organic and local foods, gardening, and farming. Today, the Fair brings together local area experts that share their knowledge with over 60,000 people who attend across three days.
Jim Ahearne, the director of the Fair, is quick to attribute the Common Ground Country Fair’s success and vibrancy to a shared community of awareness by the Fair goers, presenters, and exhibitors. In addition, the Fair has gardens and orchards that are farmed year round. However, the best parts of the Fair, and some of the most popular attractions, are the demonstrations. The instructors come prepared with the tools and products to demonstrate how their products are used. It also allows Fair goers a chance to tryout these different products, sometimes for the first time.
Like at many fairs, there are an assortment of goodies to take home for cooking and eating. The Common Ground Fair is no exception, when it comes to the variety of tantalizing treats to take home with you, including Goat Cheese. In the kitchen, Nathan takes us through the simple steps of how to make a No Bake Lemon Vanilla Goat Cheese cheesecake.
