Sooner or later most of us discover the therapeutic powers of connecting with the outdoors. Nature has an almost magical way of calming and sometimes even healing our mind and body—from a simple walk in the park, to facilities dedicated to using nature to manage the healthcare of children and young adults; with some of the most medically complex challenges. In spite of all the resources science has to offer, there’s no substitute for the many benefits that nature has to offer.
The Center for Discover, located about 90 miles north of New York City, is a special place that’s been using the powers of nature in their curriculum for over 60 years with amazing results. The Center provides an integrative, nature-based special education program to a total of 280 school age children. In addition, it provides clinical and health, residential and family support.
No matter where you live there is always a place to volunteer and help out your community. Joe takes us to 3 Circles Foundation about an hour drive outside of Atlanta. The 3 Circles Foundation is a non-profit foundation that caters to boys 12 years and older who come from foster care, broken homes, and single parent families. They have a program once a month that gives the boys a chance to get their hands in the dirt and have some awesome mentoring from the many volunteers that help out there.

I just watched the episode on the Center for Discover & I just have to say how happy it makes me to see programs like this. It’s so important to understand where our food comes from & especially how to grow it yourself. I really enjoy your show, keep up the good work!

Hello Joe and Growing a Greener World staff,
I am a 37 year old male, firefighter/paramedic. And I am not ashamed to admit I make sure to watch every minute of your shows. I grew up in a large city, so I had minimal hands on appreciation for the outdoors and growing my own food. I still live and work in a large city but, I have a medium sized garden that grows larger every year. I learn something from every episode and appreciate the hard work you all do. I hope you are on for many more years to come. I especially liked the small farm episode that showed three non farmers with no experience , talk about the true issues about having a small farm. This was great insight. I look forward to planting my first call crop. All because of your show. Thank you for your time.
