In all the years of producing episodes for Growing a Greener World, we’ve observed one theme that always holds true: place a student in a learning environment that includes growing plants or gardening, and you can’t pull them away. They love everything about it… just don’t tell them they’re getting every aspect of the core curriculum including math, science, language arts, social studies, nutrition, and more.
In this episode, we showcase the original and world-renowned Edible Schoolyard in Berkeley, CA. Co-founded by famous chef and school neighbor Alice Waters, the Edible Schoolyard is a world-caliber outdoor classroom where teachers from around the globe come to impart lessons that last a lifetime and extend well beyond both the classroom and the garden.
Dear Joe,
I discovered your program by accident on a Sunday morning while getting up early to watch another program I just learned about. I turned the TV on early as I fixed breakfast and was so delighted with your program, and have been watching it ever since.
I have been an art teacher for elementary students and when I retired I became a gardener learning to use the organic methods, and sold produce in CSAs and at Farmer’s Markets. It was a lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun, and I learned so much. I could have used your program during that time, 2008 through 2010.
Today I watched the Edible School Yard, which I enjoyed very much. I agreed with everything that was said. I just want to say Thanks for such incredible programing.
Sincerely, Maggie
